Ministry of Culture, Press and Ethnic Affairs of the Republic of Mari El, represented by T.Evseev National Museum of the Mari El republic. The museum is the сhief keeper of the history 
and culture of the unique Mari people. It has a rich collection 
of items and materials on the history, nature,ethnography, culture of the Mari region.

The museum has


  • — over 5 thousand items in the numismatic collection.
  • — 3 large treasures.
  • — over 60 thousand items in the Archive and Manuscript section.

The application uses the augmented reality technology and navigation. The key technologies are Image recognition, AR. The app is developed for two mobile platforms: iOS and Android. The development technologies used are Swift, Kotlin, React, NestJS.
Challenge

In 2020, the Mari El Republic celebrates its 100th anniversary. For this event the museum has prepared a project about this land «Mari Land: Charm of Russia». This is a presentation album in a trilogy form, telling about the culture of the Mari people and the history of establishing the Mari region. It is a grant project.


The presentation album was to be presented in digital format. A the grand project discussion stage they thought about releasing a DVD version. Just imagine, the XXI century and DVD. Gee!
So the customers changed their mind, as they highly appreciated the work done to collect and systematize information about Mari El. They wanted to create something modern and useful, something that would be available for everyone in a convenient form.

The customer was interested in augmented reality technology in analogy with 
the Pokemon Go game. It became the key idea to design the app to «catch» the city sights. This is how the idea 
of an application was born, where users can interact with with the environment using AR.
